Dozens of Dyson hair straighteners worth tens of thousands of dollars were recovered by police from a suburban warehouse during an investigation into a suspicious Facebook Marketplace page, Cook County Sheriff’s Office said.
The “hair-raising, or more like a hair-straightening cargo theft recovery” was made after investigators found a Facebook Marketplace page selling the pricey hair styling tools on Sept. 10, the sheriff’s office said in a social media post.
Investigators worked with the manufacturer of the straighteners and learned that the items listed for sale were previously stolen and their last known location was a warehouse on the 13200 block of Southwest Highway in Orland Park, authorities said.
“The Facebook Marketplace page in question suspiciously disappeared after the manufacturer contacted the warehouse about the items,” authorities said.
After a bit more investigating, a search warrant was executed at the warehouse later that day, during which 46 Dyson hair straighteners worth nearly $23,000 were recovered, police said.
