Gladys Knight is hearing her fans loud and clear, and is hinting her touring days are coming to an end.
In a bittersweet post shared on Instagram, Knight, 82, gave followers an update after announcing a break from performing in August 2026.
“After heartfelt discussions with my team, I recognize that no matter how much I love lifting spirits in song, it’s time for the midnight train to make just a few more stops. I’m finishing the year strong with my remaining performances. Looking forward to new ventures next year. Again, I am so very grateful for all the love and support over the years. God bless all of you,” the statement read.

“After much soul-searching, I’ve decided that I will be easing into fewer performances while focusing on transitioning into the next stage of my career and life moving forward,” she said at the time. “I’ll be spending more time on projects with my husband and visiting with my grandbabies and am looking forward to this new era.”
Now, it appears Knight remaining performances will be her farewell tour. However, her kids are still concerned about her health, and her son, Shanga Hankerson, is accusing her husband, William McDowell, of forcing Knight to continue performing.
“My belief and fear is that he intends to literally try to work her until she passes away. And you can quote me on that,” Hankerson told the Detroit News.
Shanga is Knight’s son with her second husband, music producer Barry Hankerson. Knight is also mom to son Jimmy and daughter Kenya with her first husband, James Newman.
According to Knight’s website, her final tour stops are on Oct. 7 in Glenside, Pa., Oct. 10 in Atlantic City, and Nov. 14 in Highland, Calif.
