ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Two Rochester broadcast veterans received lifetime achievement awards at the Rochester Association of Black Journalists (RABJ) honors event on Saturday night.
RABJ honored retired News10NBC anchor Janet Lomax and WDKX Chief Meteorologist Richard McCollough for their decades of impact in journalism. The event was held at the Memorial Art Gallery.
Lomax was the first African American to anchor a weeknight newscast in Rochester. She said when she heard she was getting this award, she was shocked because by that point she already bought her ticket for the event as a guest.
“To be recognized for the work that I have done at Channel 10 and the work I continue to do at RIT really enforces a belief within myself that I’m doing what I should be doing,” Lomax said.
“I look forward to continuing in some kind of way to working and inspiring young journalists and continuing to push it forward and pass it forward,” McCollough said.
RABJ also supported the Wyoma Best Scholarship for aspiring journalists. The winner was Zyair Kent, a 2030 graduate of the University of Rochester.
