DeWitt, 77, skyrocketed to stardom on the hit ABC sitcom Three’s Company, which ran from 1977 to 1984. Also starring John Ritter and Suzanne Somers as three single roommates who live in a sunny California apartment managed by the grouchy Stanley and Helen Roper, the series went down in history as comedy gold. DeWitt played Janet, a florist who has to deal with the wild hijinks of her roomies. This weekend, DeWitt reunited with Ritter’s widow, Amy Yasbeck, to attend a Wings reunion featuring Tony Shalhoub, Steven Weber, and Tim Daly at The John Ritter Foundation Evening from the Heart LA at Sunset Room Hollywood in Los Angeles, California. The organization was created in honor of Ritter, who died suddenly due to a misdiagnosed thoracic aortic dissection, in 2003. Now, the organization spreads awareness of aortic health and works to prevent unnecessary suffering through research, education, and advocacy.

After the hit show ended, DeWitt avoided the same level of spotlight that Ritter and Somers faced. A seasoned theater actress, she’s appeared in a lengthy list of productions over the years. But when recalling her years on the hit show, DeWitt seems to have nothing but fond memories. While he and Somers had a bit of a disagreement when Somers left the show, the duo reunited decades later on Somers’ talk show, Suzanne Somers Breaking Through.
“Whenever something about Three’s Company comes up,” DeWitt said, “I have relentlessly said that it is my opinion that the only reason Three’s Company is worth remembering is that it created an opportunity for all of us to laugh together, to celebrate joy.”
After Somers died in 2023 at age 76 from breast cancer, DeWitt sent her love to her family.
“My heart goes out to Suzanne’s family,” she said in a statement to PEOPLE. “They are a very close family — deeply connected and caring one to the other. I can only imagine how difficult this time is for all of them.”
