Chicago 911 dispatcher killed in Back of the Yards shooting

A beloved 911 dispatcher was shot and killed Friday morning as she was driving home from visiting her family.

According to Chicago police, 50-year-old Natalia Rodriguez was driving in the 4500 block of South Wood Street at approximately 12:17 a.m. Friday when she was shot multiple times.

    Rodriguez’s vehicle then crashed into a parked SUV along the street, and arriving officers found her unresponsive behind the wheel.

    She was later pronounced dead, according to authorities.

    According to officials, Rodriguez was driving home from visiting family members when she was shot by multiple assailants.

    In a statement, the Chicago Office of Emergency Management and Communications described Rodriguez as a hard-working and dedicated employee.

    “Throughout her decade of service to this department, Natalia was a close colleague and friend……she was a hard worker and dedicated call taker. Natalia’s passing is a terrible loss to her family and to OEMC,” the statement read.

    No suspect are in custody, and Area One detectives are investigating.
