Travolta’s next major breakthrough came two years later, when he starred as Danny Zuko opposite Newton-John in Grease, one of the biggest movie musicals of the era.
The soundtrack also gave Travolta several major hits, including “You’re the One That I Want,” his No. 1 duet with Newton-John, and “Summer Nights,” which reached the Top 5. “Greased Lightnin’” and “Sandy” were also released as singles, although neither matched the success of his biggest Grease songs.
Even with all those Grease hits, ‘Let Her In’ stayed Travolta’s only solo Top 10 hit in the U.S. The song later appeared on his 1978 compilation album, Travolta Fever, released after Grease made him a bigger star.
Travolta continued recording music after his Grease success. In 1980, he released “Never Gonna Fall in Love Again,” followed by several more singles and collaborations. In 1983, he reunited with Newton-John for “Take a Chance,” which appeared on the soundtrack to their film Two of a Kind. The song became another Top 5 hit for the pair.
Travolta also worked with Carly Simon on “Two Sleepy People” in 1997 and Miley Cyrus on “I Thought I Lost You” in 2008.
