NBC10 Boston reported on Friday, September 11, that the still-unidentified man previously faced a criminal charge linked to an alleged 2021 assault involving his then-wife. That charge was later dismissed.
The new report comes days after Clancy, who was accused of killing her three kids at the family’s home in Duxbury, Massachusetts, saw her trial end in a mistrial when the 12-person jury could not reach a unanimous verdict.

According to a police report obtained by the outlet, the juror’s 13-year-old nephew called 911 in September 2021 and alleged that his uncle grabbed his wife by the throat and threw her into a dresser. Prosecutors charged the man in connection with the incident, but later dismissed the case.
According to Page Six, his former wife reportedly told the outlet she did not pursue the case because she feared testifying could affect custody of her daughter. Court records also reportedly show that the couple later divorced. The same nephew obtained a restraining order against the man in 2025 after another alleged confrontation.
In an affidavit cited by NBC10 Boston, the nephew alleged that his uncle pushed him to the ground and struck him in the face. The nephew also alleged that the man told him, “You ruined my [expletive] life” for previously calling police, and added, “You’ve had this coming your way for a long time.”
The restraining order was reportedly still active when the juror was selected for Clancy’s trial.

Massachusetts juror questionnaires ask prospective jurors whether they have been arrested, charged with a crime, or served with certain court orders. Legal analyst Michael Coyne questioned how the juror ultimately made it onto the panel.
“I don’t see how they would’ve allowed him to be a member of this jury,” Coyne told NBC10 Boston. The report did not immediately make clear how the juror answered those questions or what information attorneys and the court had during jury selection.

The juror had already become the focus of attention after other panel members said the final split was 11-1 in favor of finding Clancy not guilty by reason of lack of criminal responsibility.
Juror Nick Dargie has also alleged that the holdout wrapped one of the exercise bands introduced as evidence around a water bottle during deliberations to mimic the strangulations, ABC News reported.
Clancy, 36, was accused of killing her three children, Cora, 5, Dawson, 3, and Callan, 8 months, in January 2023. She shared the kids with her former husband, Patrick Clancy. Her defense argued that she had postpartum psychosis, while prosecutors maintained that she understood the wrongfulness of her actions. Dargie said the demonstration stunned the room.
