Happy birthday, Randy Jones!
The original cowboy from the American disco group, The Village People, turns 74 on September 13, and he is still rocking his signature cowboy hat and mustache.
Jones was one of the six founding members of the group, along with David Hodo, Felipe Rose, Victor Willis, Glenn Hughes, and Alexander Briley. The Village People made their debut in 1977 and went on to release hits such as “Y.M.C.A.,” “In the Navy,” and “Macho Man.”
Jones left the group in 1981, but returned in 1987 and performed in the ensemble until 1990.

Our music is appreciated by right and left and all points in between. All part of this wonderful legacy and career that has gone on for God knows how much longer than anybody ever said it would.”
Despite President Donald Trump’s love of The Village People’s music, particularly the “Y.M.C.A.,” Jones is very outspoken about the GOP on social media. Today, he lives in Florida with his husband, Will Grega.
Recently, Jones reflected on his career and past, writing, “What a beautiful Life. Very grateful.” He is also keeping busy and still performs nearly 50 years after The Village People’s debut.
“It’s what I do. I have never had a real job. I have never done anything except getting up in front of people: talking, singing, communicating,” he said in 2019. ” My whole life has been about communication. I have been on stage getting paid since I967. That in itself for me is something that I am proud of.”
