Derry Girls Siobhan McSweeney talks Liza Tarbuck taking over for The Great Pottery Throwdown’s spin-off show

The Great Pottery Throw Down host Siobhan McSweeney has opened up about Liza Tarbuck stepping in to host the upcoming spin-off series, saying "I cannot wait to see what she brings to it.”

The Great Celebrity Pottery Throw Down, which will see six famous faces brave the clay and take to the wheel with a series of challenges, is coming to our screens later this month.

Asked if she’ll be watching along, McSweeney told Radio Times at The National Television Awards 2026: “Absolutely, I cannot wait.”

Speaking about Tarbuck taking over the reins as the show’s host, McSweeney added: “Unfortunately, I wasn't able to do it, but thank God that like somebody who's far better than me, Liza Tarbrick, was able to to come in and save us, and I cannot wait to see what she brings to it.”

The star continued: “She's an absolute genius, and it's going to be wonderful. Absolutely.”

Tarbuck’s new role will mark her first gig since exiting BBC Radio 2 earlier this year.

The broadcaster announced back in march that she’d be stepping down from her Saturday evening show after 14 years as she wanted her weekends back.

Writing on Instagram, Tarbuck said: "We made 2 hrs of radio feel like a private members club, that's the stuff of dreams.

"Thousands of people enjoyed each other's company like great friends... Thank you for letting me in, it's been a privilege."

The Great Celebrity Pottery Throw Down begins on Sunday 13 September at 7:45pm on Channel 4.
