Why were three giant tanks moving through Rochester on Thursday night?

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Did you see three massive round tanks moving through Rochester’s northwest side on Thursday night? News10NBC’s photojournalist saw the tanks and asked crews about what they were carrying.

The tanks weren’t carrying anything, but once they’re installed at the former Kodak Park site near Latona Road, they’ll carry nitrogen gas for a clean energy project. Crews say the tanks weighed up to 200,000 pounds and were up to 130 feet long.

The tanks arrived from a marine dock north of Rochester. New York State Police and others escorted the tanks, and some people stopped to watch. Licensed engineer David Kautz had the duty of making sure the tanks arrived at the Kodak Park site safely.

“One little kid, I actually said, ‘can we do it again?’ Because it was just such a different thing going past the house. So I saw lawn furniture being brought out, and even the folks that sort of got trapped in their cars while we went past some of the side streets were very understanding. It was the most pleasant transit I’ve had in a long time,” Kautz said.

News10NBC has reached out to learn more about the clean energy project at the site. Check back for updates.
