ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The Rochester community held a vigil at Highland Park on Thursday night, honoring lives lost in the War on Terror.
People gathered at the War on Terror Memorial with candles in hand, hearing accounts from veterans alongside the names of 34 local servicemembers who lost their lives in Beirut, Iraq and Afghanistan.
“This weekend is the 25th anniversary of 9/11 and a lot of our members and our heroes served after 9/11, minus the ones from Beirut, so they served after that and so we want to really make sure and drive home that they’re not going to be forgotten,” Lee said.
This was Rochester’s second annual War on Terror vigil. The memorial itself is rather new, built only five years ago.
