BCCI takes major decision on Team India physio ahead of Afghanistan series

While the India National Cricket Team is heading towards a bilateral T20I series against the Afghanistan National Cricket Team in Delhi, one of the important members of the Indian cricket team's support staff is on notice as the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is all set to say him good bye.

BCCI has reportedly taken a key decision already amid the growing injury concerns inside the Indian cricket team. Ahead of the India vs Afghanistan T20I series, starting on September 13, it is reported that Kamlesh Jain, Team India physio, is on a notice period, as the board is set to remove him from the Indian cricket team.

A bunch of cricketers started their practice for the upcoming series, while another batch of cricketers are yet to join the national camp. Players like Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, Ishan Kishan, and Tilak Varma missed the team's practice session on Thursday because of their Duleep Trophy 2026 commitments.

Ahead of the series against Afghanistan and the Asian Games 2026, the Indian team management takes a breath of relief as some of their key players like Jasprit Bumrah, Washington Sundar, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Varun Chakravarthy, and Nitish Kumar Reddy, who struggled a lot in the previous few weeks because of injury setbacks, are set to make their returns.

BCCI set to sack Team India physio, Kamlesh Jain

With the 2027 ODI World Cup approaching soon, and multiple other high-profile tournaments ahead, the board has been in search of the actual reason behind the multiple injuries that forced the selectors and the team management to change their tactics in multiple tournaments.

If the reports are to be believed, then the board is all set to remove their present physio Kamlesh Jain from the set-up. A BCCI source claimed to the news agency PTI that Kamlesh is now working under the notice period, but as an existing member of the team, he will travel to Japan for the Asian Games and will be there during the upcoming Afghanistan series as well which is going to be a reharsal for the Men in Blue ahead of the multiple format series.

"Kamlesh is on notice period. Since this is the Asian Games squad that is playing the Afghanistan series, the physio and S&C coaches are the ones who will be travelling to Japan," a BCCI source told PTI.

Morne Morkel was not with the Indian cricket team

Meanwhile, when the Indian cricket team started their preparations to take on Afghanistan, the bowling coach was not with the Indian cricket team. Bowlers and batters mostly did their training under the observation of the head coach Gautam Gambhir and the spin bowling coach.

There were only 10 players available for today's training session in Delhi. Bowling coach Morne Morkel was not with the team as he reportedly had to fly back to South Africa for some visa-related work.
