A south suburban woman was arrested and faces charges of reckless homicide, DUI and child endangerment after police say she caused a deadly crash on the Dan Ryan Expressway over Labor Day weekend that left multiple young children hospitalized and an infant killed.
According to Illinois State Police, Latasha M. Hope, 33, of Hazel Crest, was driving a red Ford SUV about 5:45 p.m. Sunday on I-57 northbound near 147th Street in Harvey when she drove off the road and struck a light pole.
All seven passengers inside the car — including an adult female, four toddlers, one infant and Hope herself — were transported to a nearby hospital with various injuries.
The six-month-old infant, police said, was later pronounced dead.
According to police, none of the children inside the car had been restrained in car seats.
Tuesday, Hope was released from the hospital and charged with three felonies, including reckless homicide, aggravated driving under the influence involving death and child endangerment resulting in death.
She remains in custody pending her first court appearance. No further details were provided.
