The exhibition “Ancient Egypt Unveiled—Treasures from Egyptian Museums” concluded its run at the Hong Kong Palace Museum.
Spanning more than nine months—from November 18, 2025, to August 31, 2026—the exhibition welcomed over 600,000 visitors, reflecting the enduring global fascination with ancient Egyptian civilization.
The Secretary-General of the Supreme Council of Antiquities, Hesham al-Leithy, attended the press conference organized by the Hong Kong Palace Museum to mark the exhibition’s conclusion and the commencement of procedures to return the participating artifacts to Egypt.
The Head of the Museums Sector at the Supreme Council of Antiquities, Ahmed Hamida, was also in attendance.
The exhibition featured 250 artifacts selected from eight Egyptian museums and archaeological sites, offering a comprehensive overview of various facets of ancient Egyptian civilization.
Among the highlights were a quartzite statue of King Tutankhamun—weighing approximately 2.7 tons—from the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir, a granite statue of King Merneptah, and a gilded mummy mask from the Hurghada Museum, alongside wooden artifacts, stone statues, papyrus scrolls, gold objects, and models of ancient Egyptian bread.
Leithy emphasized that the exhibition’s success with the public underscores the importance of overseas archaeological exhibitions as a tool for cultural exchange, showcasing Egyptian civilization, and promoting cultural tourism.
The artifacts are scheduled to return to Egypt following the completion of shipping, transport, and insurance procedures.
