According to reports by Korea JoongAng Daily, WeVerse began an internal investigation after it received a report of a leak from the Korea Internet & Security Agency (KISA). The company’s CEO, Zooile Yang, stated that WeVerse is individually notifying customers who were impacted by the data leak. According to reports, the company also says it is taking action to investigate the leak and increase security.

Yang stepped in as WeVerse CEO on June 1, replacing Joon Choi. The platform first launched in 2019 and currently hosts approximately 180 artist communities. As of April, WeVerse surpassed 155 million cumulative lifetime downloads. Globally, the platform has 10 million active monthly users across 245 countries and regions. The platform also hosts an e-commerce platform called WeVerse Shop.

Artists who utilize WeVerse include BTS, KATSEYE, SEVENTEEN and TOMORROW X TOGETHER. The platform was created by HYBE to better connect its artists with their fans, allowing for livestreams and for fans to send direct messages to their favorite artists for $3.80 (or 5,100 won).

In 2024, WeVerse turned its focus toward the U.S. market, aiming to expand with Dua Lipa, Gracie Abrams and Ariana Grande. However, the bulk of the platform’s utilization remains within the K-pop market, with BTS remaining a large driver with near-daily posts and more than 30 million members.
