Dabo Swinney continues to get ripped from everywhere in the aftermath of Saturday night’s 51-10 blowout loss at LSU that was delayed by weather but couldn’t delay Swinney’s team from getting ambushed in Lane Kiffin‘s debut as LSU head coach.
The ACC team that calls Death Valley home was crushed into oblivion in that other Death Valley in Baton Rouge, and the chaos continued on Tuesday during Swinney’s session with reporters leading up to Clemson‘s Week 2 home matchup against Georgia Southern this Saturday night (7:30 p.m. ET, ACC Network).
While Swinney is trying to get his Tigers refocused on beating the Eagles and evening up their record at 1-1, the stench from the LSU loss continued into Tuesday’s press conference, and Swinney had enough when Chapel Fowler, who covers Clemson for The State, asked Swinney if he regretted anything about his approach to the 2026 team’s roster construction.
“You’re the gotcha guy,” snapped Dabo Swinney at Fowler’s question. “No, I don’t. I don’t, man. I regret being 0-1 right now. I regret that. But, no, we’re … can you ask me that at the end of the season? You know, the season ain’t over. I mean, we’ve got 11 more (games). What if we go 11-1? You promise me you’ll ask me that then?”
When Fowler said yes to that offer by Swinney, the Clemson head coach shot back: “OK, good. I’ll answer it.”
Regardless of that potential end-of-the-season question, the Tigers are 0-1 right now and Swinney is dealing with major criticism after the Week 1 nightmare in Baton Rouge.
After that exchange, Swinney went on to chastise Fowler for being the reporters who likes to stir up the controversy and ask those types of questions that could agitate Swinney, especially right about now as Clemson deals with the embarrassment of what happened last Saturday.
“We got 11 more games to go battle,” Swinney said. “You want to count ’em up? Then you can ask whatever question you want.”
