ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Friday marks 25 years since the Sept. 11 terror attacks. Nearly 3,000 people were killed at the World Trade Center and the Pentagon.
Various events will be taking place in the Rochester area to honor 9/11 victims and first responders. Here is a list of events happening around the area Friday.
MCC 9/11 remembrance ceremony (8 a.m.)
The Monroe Community College Association will host its annual 9/11 Memorial Ceremony outside the Pamela Ann Chesonis (PAC) Center.
The ceremony will honor first responders and include a musical performance by a group of MCC students. To learn more about the event, click here.
9/11 steel tour / wreath laying ceremony (10 a.m.)
Firefighters from the Spencerport Fire District will visit several locations throughout Monroe County that have preserved pieces of World Trade Center steel.
The fire district will also have a wreath laying ceremony where they will honor the lives lost on Sept. 11, 2001, and those who continue to battle illnesses as a result.
9/11 first responders memorial (11 a.m.)
In Rochester, a new 9/11 First Responders Memorial will be unveiled at the Gary Beikirch Memorial Park on South Avenue.
Eastman 9/11 concert (11:30 a.m.)
The Eastman Horn Choir will be joining members of the U.S. Army Field Band for a special remembrance concert at Kilbourn Hall at the Eastman School of Music.
The concert will feature the premiere of “Qualia Memoriam,” which is a new work by Eastman alumnus and U.S. Army Field Band member Master Sergeant J.G. Miller.

Stair climb at St. John Fisher University (3 p.m.)
Students, faculty, and staff at St. John Fisher University will climb the equivalent of 110 flights of stairs in Kearney Hall in memory of the first responders and all those who lost their lives on 9/11.
Fisher students and staff will be alongside local first responders and community members. The remembrance will start with a ceremony featuring remarks from sophomore nursing student and volunteer firefighter Connor Brown, alongside fellow classmates Cam Cook and Tyler Hildreth.
