The BBC has confirmed a return date for Not Going Out – with an added treat marking the 20th anniversary of the Lee Mack sitcom.
The new episodes pick up with Lee and Lucy (Sally Bretton) as empty nesters after their kids have swanned off to university, but their lives are no less chaotic.
Not Going Out season 15 will begin on BBC One and iPlayer on Wednesday 23 September, with an episode referencing the show's time on air – as Lee and Lucy reluctantly host a 20th birthday party for their goddaughter.
The synopsis teases: "Wisely, Lucy absolutely forbids Lee from leaving the bedroom to check that everything is OK in case he (inevitably) ruins the big day.
"But when Lee hears someone playing his precious, special edition Frankie Goes to Hollywood LP, he just can’t stop himself from rushing downstairs to save it."
The season 15 premiere will be immediately followed by a standalone documentary titled 20 Years of Not Going Out, looking back on its historic run.
The programme will "take viewers on a guided tour through the funniest moments, featuring classic clips, exclusive archive material and never‑before‑seen outtakes", as per the BBC.
"Lee will also reflect on the full history of the series from his unique perspective, sharing candid insights, behind‑the‑scenes stories and the surprising twists that shaped the show’s evolution."
The documentary, first announced in May, has promised appearances from cast and crew across "all eras" of the sitcom, which opens the door to many exciting possible contributors.
Over the years, the Not Going Out cast has included comedians Bobby Ball and Tim Vine, Miranda Hart (Miranda), Katy Wix (Ghosts), Hugh Dennis (Outnumbered), Abigail Cruttenden (Showtrial) and American actor Megan Dodds (For All Mankind), who played Lee's original love interest, Kate, in the first season.
Dennis and Cruttenden will reprise their roles in season 15, as their characters Toby and Anna drop by for a weekend visit – that happens to coincide with a botched beauty treatment for a thoroughly embarrassed Lucy.
The Young Ones star Nigel Planer will also guest star, as himself, in a different episode, where Lee inadvertently orchestrates a night of chaos at a busy restaurant.
Both the documentary and the full 15th season will be available on BBC iPlayer from 23 September, giving fans plenty to keep them busy.
Not Going Out holds the honour of being the UK's longest-running British sitcom currently on air, and the second longest-running ever by number of seasons.
It is also one of British comedy's rare centenarians, having passed 100 episodes in 2023 and now continuing well beyond.
