Saudi Arabia& 039;s cloud transformation puts data resilience at the heart of digital growth ...Saudi Arabia

Saudi Arabia is entering a pivotal phase in its cloud transformation, with local Microsoft cloud capabilities creating new opportunities for organizations to accelerate Microsoft 365, Cloud & AI adoption while addressing increasingly important requirements around data sovereignty, security and compliance. As government, financial services, healthcare and critical infrastructure organizations modernize their environments, the conversation is shifting from simply moving to the cloud to ensuring that critical data remains protected, recoverable and resilient. For Mena Migally, Regional Vice President for EMEA East at Veeam, the Kingdom's transformation is creating significant momentum around data resilience. “Saudi Arabia is one of the most dynamic and strategically important technology markets globally,” Migally says. “As organizations move more critical workloads into Microsoft 365 and the cloud, resilience and recoverability become foundational business requirements. Customers need to know that their data is protected and that they can recover quickly when disruption occurs.”That requirement is particularly relevant as Microsoft 365 becomes increasingly central to business operations. Veeam and Microsoft have built a long-standing technology relationship around protecting Microsoft environments, which has expanded significantly in recent years. In 2024, the companies announced a five-year strategic partnership focused on joint innovation, including integrating Microsoft Copilot and AI services with Veeam's data protection portfolio and jointly taking Veeam Data Cloud for Microsoft 365 and Azure to market. Tamer Elhamy, Director of Software Partners at Microsoft MEA, says the collaboration matters most where the Kingdom's Cloud & AI story is now heading. “With customers able to run workloads from our Saudi Arabia East datacenter region from November 2026, organizations in the Kingdom get local data residency alongside global-scale cloud and AI innovation,” Elhamy says. “Working with Veeam means resilience is built in as customers plan their migration, not added as an afterthought.” The relationship has continued to deepen. In February 2025, Microsoft expanded its collaboration with Veeam through an equity investment and joint work on AI-powered solutions designed to help customers protect, recover and derive greater value from their data. The companies are integrating Microsoft AI capabilities into Veeam's data resilience platform, including solutions for Microsoft 365 and Azure. For Migally, this evolution demonstrates why data protection must be considered part of the cloud strategy from day one. “The cloud does not eliminate the responsibility to protect data,” he says. “Our partnership with Microsoft enables us to combine Veeam's expertise in backup, recovery and ransomware resilience with Microsoft's cloud and AI capabilities, giving customers greater confidence across their data estates.” That collaboration is already translating into new capabilities. Veeam was a launch partner for Microsoft 365 Backup Storage, integrating the technology with Veeam Data Cloud for Microsoft 365 to deliver faster backup and recovery at scale. For Elhamy, the practical effect is a faster route to Cloud and AI, not a longer checklist. “Together, Microsoft and Veeam are giving customers a level of resilience that simply was not available before, and that is what allows organizations to move faster,” he says. “Teams can put more of their business-critical work into Microsoft 365 and build with AI on top of it, because the protection travels with them.” With the region confirmed, attention across the Kingdom is turning to modern data estates, governance frameworks and the ability to move from pilots to production. Both executives see AI as the opportunity that makes that readiness worth investing in now. “AI will create enormous opportunities - IDC expects Microsoft, our partners and our customers to generate around $44 billion in new revenues for the Saudi economy between 2027 and 2030* - and far more data to manage along the way,” Elhamy says. “AI outputs are only ever as good as the data behind them, so governance and recoverability are what turn AI ambition into results.” Migally believes resilience will therefore become even more closely tied to business strategy. “The organizations that succeed will be those that can innovate quickly while maintaining control, compliance and recoverability,” he says. “In the age of AI, data resilience is no longer simply an IT consideration. It is a business imperative.”
