ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Labor Day will end on a high note with partly cloudy skies and dry weather. You may even want to take your Labor Day dinner plans outdoors! Temperatures will stay in the low-70s until 8/9pm and then drop through the 60s through this evening. Light winds and cool temperatures will likely allow some valley fog to develop south of Rochester. Low temperatures will reach near 55 degrees for Rochester and the low-50s for higher elevations.
Tuesday is back to school for many and the weather is expected to cooperate! Tuesday morning will start crisp and fall-like. Temperatures are forecasted to be in the mid-50s through the morning commute hours with valley fog slowly dissipating. Rochester’s forecasted high temperature for Tuesday is 78 degrees. Some surrounding areas may even reach 80 degrees. Dry weather is expected as high pressure sits over the Northeast through Tuesday. Tuesday night stays mostly dry but skies are expected to see an increase in cloud coverage through Tuesday evening and overnight. This will keep temperatures in the low-60s.
Early Wednesday morning, our first raindrops may start to move into the greater Rochester area. However, the extent of shower coverage remains a little uncertain. A warm front moving over the lower Great Lakes may help these showers to develop as warm, moist air is ushered into Western New York. Most data suggests that these showers will likely be pretty sparse in coverage through the morning. As of right now, it also seems likely that cloud coverage will limit instability. As a result, we are not too concerned about these storms containing damaging winds or hail. Regardless, it is likely that some scattered showers and storms will move through in the afternoon and may last into the later portion of Wednesday evening ahead of the cold front. Some of these showers may bring some localized heavy downpours, but our flood threat remains very low.
