In the second night of the Emmys, ahead of the final ceremony on Monday 14 September, The Pitt star Ernest Harden Jr picked up a surprise win for his role in The Pitt.
Harden played alcoholic patient Louie Cloverfield in both seasons 1 and 2 of the medical drama, with the character tragically dying in the most recent batch of episodes.
Harden won the award for guest actor in a drama series, beating out fellow The Pitt actor Jeff Kober, as well as Colman Domingo for Euphoria, Jeff Hiller for Pluribus, Jonathan Pryce for Slow Horses and Bradley Whitford for The Diplomat.
It was not only Harden's first Emmy win at the age of 73, but it was also his first nomination, with the actor having taken on supporting roles throughout his career.
Speaking after his win, Harden said: "I am on cloud 25. I’m not saying this is a complete surprise because The Pitt is such a powerful show to come from, but just to get it in your hands is like unreal."
He added: "I wish my parents were here to see this, they would have been so proud."
Harden might not be returning following his character's tragic death, but The Pitt will be, with the third season currently in production.
The new season will feature returning stars including Noah Wyle, Katherine LaNasa, Sepideh Moafi, Patrick Ball, Isa Briones, Shawn Hatosy, Taylor Dearden, Fiona Dourif, Shabana Azeez, Gerran Howell and Ayesha Harris.
The new batch of 15 episodes will be set on 12 November, one day after Veterans Day and in the lead-up to Thanksgiving. This follows the first season being set in September, and season 2 being set on 4 July.
