Winter Juniors qualifier Alexander Ivascu has announced his verbal commitment to swim and study at the U.S. Naval Academy beginning in the fall of 2027. He publicized the news on SwimCloud, writing:
I am honored to commit to the U.S. Naval Academy to continue my academic and athletic journey. Thanks to my club coaches Dave & Justin, my family, and friends for their support and a shoutout to my Navy coaches Robert, Brown, & Liscinsky for this incredible opportunity. Can’t wait to start this next chapter GO NAVY BEAT ARMY.
A rising senior at Lane Tech College Prep High School in Chicago, Illinois, Ivascu has been a member of his school’s varsity swimming team since his freshman year. He also trains year-round with Chicago Wolfpack Aquatic Club, where he primarily specializes in breaststroke, IM, and distance freestyle.
Ivascu is coming off a breakthrough 2025-26 season that saw him drop nearly 13 seconds in the 400 IM, more than eight seconds in the 100 breast, over seven seconds in the 500 free, more than six seconds in the 200 IM, six and a half seconds in the 200 breast, and four seconds in the 200 fly.
At the Illinois High School Association (IHSA) State Championships in February, Ivascu finished fourth in the 200 IM (1:48.60, a PB) and eighth in the 500 free (4:34.22, a PB), in addition to helping Lane Tech’s 400 free relay to fourth (45.68 split) and 200 medley relay to seventh (25.38 split). He recorded all of his other PBs a week later at the Illinois Senior Championships, where he won the 400 IM (3:54.12), was runner-up in the 200 fly (1:49.32), 100 breast (56.06), and 200 breast (2:01.07), and took bronze in the 50 breast (26.24).
Ivascu holds four Winter Juniors qualifying times across the 200 fly, 200 breast, and IM races.

Ivascu, who still has two full seasons of training ahead before he even lines up at his first conference meet, is slated to make an immediate impact: his current lifetime best in the 400 IM would have qualified for the ‘A’ final and placed eighth, while his times in the 200 IM, 200 fly, and 200 breast would have qualified for the ‘B’ finals, and his 100 breast would have advanced to the ‘C’ final.
Ivascu joins Vincent Battaglini, Tristan Furlow, Cole Nelson, Thomas Smith, Zachary Mcnabb, Camp Hartman, Ryan Baldwin, Alex Jungbluth, and Parker Efird in committing to Navy’s class of 2031 so far.
