Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi urged the relevant state agencies to continue their efforts to revitalize Cairo’s various historical and heritage landmarks and develop the surrounding areas to attract more tourists.
Sisi emphasized the importance of adopting the “greening Cairo” project, which aims to transform any vacated land into green spaces.
This came during a meeting between Sisi and Minister of Religious Endowments Osama al-Azhari, Cairo Governor Ibrahim Saber, Advisor to the President for Urban Planning, Amir Sayed Ahmed,and the Head of the Armed Forces Engineering Authority, Walid Aref.
Presidential Spokesperson Mohamed al-Shenawy said that the President followed up during the meeting on efforts to revitalize Cairo’s Islamic and historical landmarks.
The official spokesperson added that the Governor of Cairo highlighted the efforts to revitalize numerous Khedival, historical, and Islamic landmarks in Cairo, as well as the ongoing rehabilitation and development of infrastructure in and around historical areas.
The Minister of Religious Endowments reviewed the progress of the restoration and revitalization of several historical mosques and shrines, noting that these efforts extend to the development of more integrated tourist routes connecting various historical and heritage sites.
He continued that upon completion of all the ongoing work related to the revitalization of historical landmarks, the “heart of Cairo” will become an open-air tourist destination, attracting even more visitors.
