C.J. Moran has been named the next head coach of Southern Connecticut State University’s men’s and women’s swimming & diving programs, the school announced this week. Moran takes over the position previously held by Tim Quill who died suddenly in February at age 59, just one day before the team’s conference meet.
“I am extremely honored to be chosen as the next head coach of the Southern Swimming and Diving Program,” Moran said. “Words cannot even describe how thankful I am for the overwhelming support I have received from my family, friends, SCSU’s athletic administration, our current swimmers and divers, and my SCSU Swimming and Diving Alumni family throughout this process.”
“I am excited for the opportunity to continue to work with our student athletes and to further pursue the tradition of excellence of SCSU Swimming and Diving that was set forth by my predecessors Dr. Bruce Hutchinson, Tim Wise, and Tim Quill,” Moran said.
Moran is in his 3rd stint with the program and has served as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator since 2015. He served as an assistant coach from 2000-2001 and 2002-2005 as well. He is a alumnus of the program as he earned a bachelor’s degree in social work in 2000. He served as acting head coach for the program during the 2026 NCAA Championships.
The SCSU women captured the 6th consecutive and 18th overall Northeast-10 title at the 2026 NE10 Championships. The men’s program finished 4th out of nine teams.
Molly Kennedy represented the women’s team at the 2026 Division II NCAA Championships, finishing 37th in the 50 free (23.83), 28th in the 100 free (51.15), and 36th in the 200 free (1:53.24).
