Winter Juniors qualifier Mazie Moberly has announced her verbal commitment to swim and study at the University of Tampa, becoming the first publicized commit in the Spartans’ class of 2031. She publicized the news on SwimCloud, writing:
Since I started swimming, it’s been a dream of mine to go to one of the best distance schools in the country. I’m blessed to say my dream has come true. I’m extremely excited to announce my verbal commitment to the University of Tampa! First, I’d like to thank the Lord for all his glory and allowing me to excel at my sport. I’d like to thank my parents for supporting me through this entire process. I’d also like to thank Coach John Hulvey for believing in me, pushing me, and coaching me into a better swimmer and person. I’d like to thank my friends and teammates who have made practice even more fun. Finally, I’d like to thank Coach Kiner and the rest of the University of Tampa coaching staff for giving me this incredible opportunity. I’m excited for the next 5 years! Go Spartans!
A rising senior at FW Buchholz High School in Gainesville, Florida, Moberly has been a member of her school’s varsity swimming team since her freshman year. She also trains year-round with Gator Swim Club, where she primarily specializes in distance freestyle.
Moberly is coming off a 2025-26 season that saw her drop over 18 seconds in the 1650 free, almost four seconds in the 500 free, and nearly a second and a half in the 200 free. Her top meet of the season came at the Florida Swimming Senior Championships in March, where she finished third in the 1650 free (16:55.96), fifth in the 1000 free (10:07.87), and ninth in the 500 free (4:57.81), all in her current career bests.
Moberly qualified and competed at Winter Juniors – East for the first time in December, finishing 46th in the 1650 free (17:22.92), 56th in the 1000 free (10:19.28), and 95th in the 500 free (5:06.33).
On the high school scene, Moberly helped FW Buckholz finish 11th in the 400 free relay (56.11 split) and 12th in the 200 free relay (25.58 anchor) at the Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) Class 4A State Championships in November, as well as 16th individually in the 500 free (5:06.73). She also set a PB of 1:56.08 in the 200 free at a smaller high school meet a few weeks prior to State.

200 Freestyle: 1:56.08 500 Freestyle: 4:57.81 1000 Freestyle: 10:07.87 1650 Freestyle: 16:55.96The Tampa women won the 2026 Sunshine State Conference Championships and were runners-up at the 2026 NCAA Division II Championships.
Moberly’s current personal best in the 1650 free would have finished runner-up at the meet, while her times in the 500 and 1000 free would have both been quick enough for fifth. She’s also within a second of the 1:54.94 needed to earn a second swim in the 200 free, all with two full seasons of training still ahead of her first conference meet.
