SENECA COUNTY, N.Y. — The Seneca County Board of Supervisors is asking Governor Kathy Hochul to declare a State Disaster Emergency that includes Seneca County after Wednesday’s severe storms.
Wednesday’s storms caused widespread power outages, downed trees and power lines, and other damage across the Rochester region. As of Friday morning, over 2,000 NYSEG customers in Seneca County are still without power.
On Thursday, the National Weather Service surveyed the damage and confirmed that five tornadoes touched down Wednesday, with two of them in Seneca County.

In a declaration from the board of supervisors, it says “the full extent and financial impact of the damage remain under assessment, and the response and recovery needs of Seneca County, its municipalities,residents, farms, and businesses may exceed the resources reasonably available at the local level.”
Therefore, the board is requesting that Gov. Hochul declare a State Disaster Emergency and provide immediate assistance to the county from state agencies.
“Seneca County respectfully requests the immediate assistance of the State of New York inensuring that the County and its affected communities receive every available State and federal resource necessary to recover from this devastating storm.”
