ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The Rochester-based company that operates out of Genesee Brewery has a new owner, a new CEO, and is returning to its old name.
Saothair Capital Partners, a private equity firm, bought the local company CCR American Holdings and changed its name to North American Breweries. In addition to managing Genesee Brewery, the company handles the brewing, packaging, marketing, and selling of beer brands to wholesalers across the country. It’s considered one of the U.S.’s largest contract brewers of beer and other alcoholic beverages.
North American Breweries works with brands including Labatt, Genesee, Seagram’s Escapes, Lipton Hard Iced Tea, and Bubly Wine Refresher. The company’s former owner was Distribuidora La Florida, a subsidiary of Heineken N.V.
Peter Bodenham, who previously worked at North American Breweries and its predecessor, will become the company’s CEO. In a statement, he said:
“This is a business with an extraordinary legacy and deep regional roots, and I see real opportunity ahead. We will continue to invest in the Genesee Brewery and the brands that define this portfolio. We have a talented workforce, loyal customers and strong supplier partners, and I look forward to working alongside all of them to build a sustainable, growing business for the long term.”
Genesee Brewery on St. Paul Street and Cataract Street is considered one of the oldest and largest continually operating breweries in the U.S. It employs over 700 people.
