A 31-year-old woman was identified as the bystander shot and killed overnight after getting caught in a crossfire outside a home in suburban Lockport, according to authorities.
Michelle Robinson, 31, was shot and killed Wednesday night in an apparent homicide in the 200 block of Dellwood Avenue, the Will County Coroner said. According to the Will County Sheriff, Robinson and another adult male were “merely bystanders” who got caught in a crossfire while they were standing outside.
The man was expected to recover, the sheriff’s office said.
Neighbors described to NBC Chicago the chaotic scene of the shooting overnight, and said the woman who was killed was a mother of four.
“I just heard gunshots,” one neighbor said. “I thought it was fireworks.”
The neighbor said one of the bullets went through roof of her home and nearly missed her son’s head.
Early Thursday morning, video and photos from the scene showed SWAT team members at a house and a very large police presence. Authorities asked the public to stay away from the area as they worked to investigate.
