Vigil for victims in Nepal-China floods
The Bhutanese Community of Greater Rochester is holding a vigil on Thursday to honor the lives lost in the flooding and mudslides along the Nepal-China border. The death toll in the flooding has surpassed 1,100, and thousands are still missing.
The vigil begins at 6 p.m. at the community center on 201 Scottsville-West Henrietta Rd. With the new school year already underway for some students, there’s a school supply giveaway event happening at Gates Memorial Park in Spencerport from 3 to 6 p.m. on Thursday.
Students can get a free backpack, play laser tag, and get free food. People can also donate school supplies at the event. You can learn more here.

Free dog vaccinations on North Goodman Street
Lollypop Farm is holding a free dog vaccination event on Thursday at the Connected Communities Neighborhood Hub on North Goodman Street. It’s part of Lollypop Farm’s event series to get pets vaccinated and connect pet owners in underserved areas in Rochester with resources.
The vaccination event runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. There will also be free pet food and supplies. In addition, experts will be on hand to guide behavior, training, and more. The next event will be at The People’s Pantry on Tuesday, Oct. 6 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
