As celebrity tributes to Dolly Parton have poured in following the news of her death last week, singer Jewel shared a special memory of when she worked the late country star.
“I’ll never forget @dollyparton coming into the studio to record ‘My Father’s Daughter’ with me,” she wrote in an Instagram post on Tuesday. “She told me the song reminded her of her own life story, and of “Coat of Many Colors,” which meant so much to me.”
Jewel then recalled actually recording the 2015 song with the country legend, where Parton entered the room in her full “Dolly” look.
“At 8 o’clock in the morning, she walked into the studio in full leather pants, lucite high heels, perfect hair, with sparkly butterflies woven through it — completely and unmistakably Dolly,” she recalled. “She was prepared, gracious, funny, and consummately professional. And when she opened her mouth to sing, she was flawless.”
Jewel went on to rave about Parton, who died last week at age 80 after a brief battle with cancer.
“There are some people you admire from afar and somehow admire even more once you get to work beside them. Dolly is one of those people,” she wrote. “An extraordinary artist, songwriter, storyteller, and woman. I feel so lucky that our voices got to meet on this song and that I have it as a memento to keep of her extraordinary life.” Jewel’s post consisted of a video that she took at the time of their recording where she described getting to meet and bond with the country legend over their shared upbringing.

Parton’s nephew, Bryan Seaver, confirmed the news of her passing in an Instagram video shared to her account last week.
“It is an honor, an honor that is mixed with absolute pride and great sadness. But sadness lies with us, not with Dolly,” he said, in part. “Dolly has lived in the light and is in the arms of Jesus, surely met by Carl, her parents and countless others who have watched her and longed to meet her in the heavens.”
