But until then, we’ve still got a little time to look back, catch up with former Bulls head coach Billy Donovan, and dive into what Bryson Graham sees for this upcoming season.

But we know there is a world out there where Billy Donovan could’ve chosen to stay put as Chicago’s head coach or maybe even move into the front office, as the Reinsdorfs themselves told the media. But Billy left and joined the San Antonio Spurs’ coaching staff for the upcoming 2026-27 season. Yesterday, a reporter from San Antonio caught up with Billy and asked him why he chose to leave Chicago and join San Antonio.“I loved my time in Chicago,” said Billy Donovan. “I loved the ownership group. They were very kind and offered me the opportunity to stay on as a coach, offered me an opportunity to even move into the front office… I just felt that with a new front office coming in, that person should have the freedom to choose their own coach and build out the organization the way they see fit.”
Honestly, as much as I did not appreciate Billy’s willingness to not prioritize meaningless wins over development, at no point did I, or anyone else, think that he was not a great coach. This response from him was pretty class. Billy Donovan also talked about why San Antonio and when the idea of him getting there started.“San Antonio had called during the playoffs and there was some thought that they may lose some staff members… After talking to Mitch Johnson, the head coach who I got a lot of respect for, I’m just hoping in some way I can help and bring value.”

But Jamal did get some exclusive quotes from Bulls EVP Bryson Graham about what he hopes to see from the Bulls in the upcoming season.“We just want to see internal growth from our young guys and even from our veteran players,” said Bryson. “We just want to see a team that’s going to go out there, represent this city well, play hard and obviously continue to grow and continue to develop.”
The most important of those young guys, of course, is Caleb Wilson, who one team source told Jamal “looks like we got a dude.” I think it’s safe to keep the expectations low, but not at zero. The Bulls still need to avoid the relegation zone, and they also need to see some promise from their players. As long as we see that, the excitement will be high. And finally, another bit of crossover from us here at BN Bulls with BN Cubs. Yesterday’s win over the Brewers felt video game-esque, but I’m actually talking about their 17-5 win over the Reds on Saturday. That game saw PCA go off for three big homers, which got some well-deserved recognition from a Chicago Bulls legend. On a post made by the Cubs on Instagram complimenting PCA, NBA’s youngest-ever MVP and Chicago’s own Derrick Rose commented on the picture with three simple letters:“MVP”
