Recall Issued for Candy Sold at Marshalls, TJ Maxx, Homegoods

A multi-state recall has been issued for candy sold at popular retailers across several states due to an undeclared allergen. Crystal Temptations, a company based in North Arlington, New Jersey, issued the recall on August 31.

    According to the recall notice published by the Food and Drug Administration, the company is recalling five different packaging formats of its Halloween Chocolatey Eyeballs because they contain undeclared milk allergens. “People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to milk run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products,” says the notice. 

    The products were distributed to Marshalls, TJ Maxx, Homegoods, and Sierra Trading Post locations in 13 states, including Arizona, California, Connecticut, Georgia, Indiana, Massachusetts, Nevada, New Jersey, North Carolina, Ohio, Texas, Virginia, and Wyoming.

    The packaging labels can be identified by the following markers:

    “Crystal Temptations” plastic bag with designed header card – Chocolatey Eyeballs, 10 oz. “Crystal Temptations” acrylic box with designed paper wrap – Chocolatey Eyeballs, 7 oz. “Crystal Temptations” round plastic jar – Chocolatey Eyeballs, 10.5 oz. “Crystal Temptations” designer plastic pouch bag – Chocolatey Eyeballs, 16 oz. “Crystal Temptations” plastic bag tied with a tag – Chocolatey Eyeballs, 11 oz.

    The notice states that the recall notice was initiated after a TJX analyst discovered that the affected products, which contain whey, “were distributed in packaging that did not reveal the presence of milk.” As of publication, no illnesses have been reported in connection with the recalled candy. 

    Consumers who purchased the affected products are asked to destroy them. While refunds are not available at the point of sale, consumers may contact Crystal Temptations for a refund by calling 1-201-246-7990, Monday through Friday, 9 am to 5 pm ET and providing proof of purchase.
