LORD’S — England bowled out Pakistan for 194 on day four at Lord’s to wrap up their first Test series win in almost two years.
Chasing 389 for victory in this second Test, Pakistan were dismissed in 50.5 overs despite a defiant 97 from Saud Shakeel as the hosts took an unassailable 2-0 lead ahead of next week’s third and final Test at Edgbaston.
For Joe Root’s men, this ruthless performance is another positive sign in the post-Bazball era as they look to build towards next summer’s Ashes.
Having failed to win any of their previous three series since a 2-1 win in New Zealand in December 2024, this result will provide a much-needed shot of confidence ahead of the arrival of new head coach Stephen Fleming for the tour of South Africa in December.
Ollie Robinson starred on the final day, taking 4 for 24 to take his tally for the series to 16 wickets at an average of 7.18.
Ben Duckett – 4/10
Another disappointing Test, with scores of 17 and one. Last century only three matches ago though.
Emilio Gay – 5/10
Horrible legside dismissal in first innings and could do nothing about grubber in the second when he batted well for 31.
Jordan Cox – 8/10
First-innings half-century in toughest of conditions helped set up this win. Scored 11 second time around. Looks the part.
Joe Root – 5/10
Out lbw nine times in the last 12 innings. Two failures and out both times again with the wicketkeeper standing up. Captained well.
Harry Brook – 5/10
Another who needs to solve issue of the keeper standing up given that was the case with both dismissals here. Scored 49 runs overall.
Dan Lawrence – 7/10
Fine second-innings 54, albeit with the pressure off given how far ahead England were, should guarantee his place for the winter.
Jamie Smith – 8/10
Brilliant attacking first-innings 61 and kept well, especially standing up to Ollie Robinson.
Gus Atkinson – 6/10
Match figures of 0 for 74 from 18 overs look poor but he didn’t bowl badly and played his part in four-pronged seam attack.
Ollie Robinson – 9/10
His match haul of 8 for 35 here took his career tally in Tests to 99 at 19.53. Ridiculous numbers. Not every bowler needs to be express pace.
Jofra Archer – 8/10
Best he’s bowled since returning to Test cricket last summer. Quick, accurate and intimidating. Deserved more than five wickets.
Josh Tongue – 7/10
His five wickets did not do him justice either. Is getting better with every Test. Scored career-best 30 with the bat too.
