The Egyptian Transport Ministry is preparing to launch trial operations for the first line of the high-speed electric train network, connecting Ain Sokhna, al-Alamein, and Marsa Matrouh, from mid-September until early October 2026.
The trial period for the first line will last for six months before official launch and the opening of service to the public.
The first line of the high-speed electric train network extends for 660 kilometers and is part of the Ain Sokhna-Dekheila logistics corridor.
It includes 21 stations in addition to a control center.
Trial operations
Trial operations are scheduled to begin gradually from the Hadayek October area, with service then gradually extending to Wadi al-Natroun, Nubaria, and finally Alexandria, according to the operational plan.
The planned operation of Line I includes 15 high-speed trains, 34 regional trains, and 14 freight locomotives.
The high-speed electric train’s operation and safety systems rely on security systems provided by specialized foreign companies, in addition to securing stations and surrounding areas through a sophisticated surveillance camera system.
The high-speed electric train network currently under construction in Egypt consists of three lines with a total length of 2,000 kilometers.
It aims to support the modern transportation system, connect cities, industrial zones, and ports, and enhance passenger and freight transport.
