OLEAN, N.Y. — A city in New York’s Southern Tier is offering incentives for people who move there. The City of Olean is one of a number of communities across the country trying to take advantage of a growing trend of remote workers.
News10NBC’s Buffalo affiliate reports that the city is offering an incentive package, valued at $8,000, to prospective home buyers.
The $8,000 incentive breaks down to $4,000 in cash from the city and $4,000 in perks donated by community partners. Some of those perks include St. Bonaventure University basketball tickets, a Holiday Valley ski pass, memberships to local recreational spots, and more.
Olean is a city of just under 14,000 residents, with an average home price of $145,000. Olean Mayor Amy Sherburne told our affiliate the city will pay MakeMyMove, an online relocation firm, $30,000 for a year to market Olean to prospective home buyers.
Although more than 300 cities and towns across the country are doing this, Mayor Sherburne told our affiliate Olean is the only city in New York State participating.
