Sadagoppan Ramesh has launched a scathing attack on the India national cricket team head coach Gautam Gambhir, questioning his accountability after Sri Lanka drew the second Test in Colombo.

Ramesh said in an Instagram video: "Gambhir came for the press conference after the first Test. We know he comes to the press conference only if India has won the previous match. Otherwise, he will send somebody else."
"He said rankings don't matter and India aren't struggling in Tests. How can you say these two things? Only if you look at the rankings can you qualify for the WTC final. And the whole world knows India is struggling in red-ball cricket."

India’s Test record under Gambhir since he became head coach in 2024 has not been that impressive. The former Indian cricketer took a sharp dig at Gambhir, saying the India coach is refusing to accept the team’s real Test struggles. He said that India are nowhere close to the WTC final and that Gambhir needs to wake up to the team’s current situation.
Ramesh said, "I just say that you can even wake someone sleeping, but you can never wake a person acting like he's sleeping. It doesn't look like India can pluck a fruit from the tree called the WTC final. Forget being near the tree; I believe India isn't even in the garden with that tree."
However, India has seen some positive results under Gambhir. They drew the Test series in England 2-2 last year and recently defeated Sri Lanka 1-0. India had missed the WTC final in the previous cycle under Gambhir after finishing runners-up in the 2021 and 2023 editions.
