Inbound lanes on the Dan Ryan Expressway were shut down early Friday morning due to a police investigation, with traffic expected for the rush hour commute.
“Just south of Rate Field,” NBC 5 traffic reporter Kye Martin said. “The inbound local lanes are blocked are blocked for an ongoing police investigation right here on the expressway.”
Martin said the incident may have involved a pedestrian.
As of 5 a.m., inbound lanes on I-90/I-94 were closed at 47th Avenue. Express lanes in the inbound direction were open, Martin said, but congestion to get on those was building.
Total Traffic & Weather Network said the closure was leading to backups from the Chicago Skyway. Martin recommended drivers take DuSable Lake Shore Drive as an alternate, or use the Dan Ryan’s express lanes.
Photos and video from the scene showed multiple Illinois State Police troopers on the highway, with detectives investigating a red SUV.
