Outlander: Blood of My Blood season 2 reveals first-look trailer ahead of new episodes next month

MGM+ has released the trailer and key art for the second season of Outlander: Blood of My Blood, confirming the prequel will return to UK screens next month.

The new run begins weekly on MGM+ in the UK from Saturday 19 September, following its US premiere on Starz.

The heart-pounding new trailer takes viewers back to 1700s Scotland and the start of the Jacobite Uprising, with the series' two young couples desperately trying to find their way back to each other amid brutal battles, shifting loyalties and clan politics.

It also revisits the infamous standing stones of Craigh na Dun. You can watch it for yourself below. The timing means fans of the time-travelling universe will avoid an extended "droughtlander" this year, with the prequel arriving soon after the epic finale of the flagship Outlander series, whose ambiguous ending divided viewers earlier in the year.

Outlander: Blood of my Blood season 1 introduced two different but equally passionate love stories featuring the parents of Claire and Jamie as they met and fought to be together against the odds. The series was certified fresh by Rotten Tomatoes, opening with a strong critical response and then ending with a "shocking" finale that cast members warned would split fans.

As per the official synopsis for season: "In the second season, the lovers are separated once again as the Scottish Highlands are split in two by the 1715 Jacobite Rising, thrusting the clans into war and forcing them to choose a side in the rebellion.

"With the fiery crosses lit, Brian and his cousin Murtagh must return to Castle Leathers and pledge to fight beside his father, the scheming Simon Fraser, Lord Lovat. Ellen reluctantly returns to Castle Leoch to find her brothers, Colum and Dougal, feuding over how to respond to the call to arms, and cleverly devises a plan to protect Clan MacKenzie whatever the outcome."

The cast have been teasing what lies ahead for some time, with the ensemble promising fans will "lose their minds" over the second run, while Jeremy Irvine has described it as a "much more epic" chapter after the acclaimed first season.
