As we approach the 28th season of long-running procedural show Law & Order: SVU, it has been announced that a beloved Succession cast member is joining the series.
J Smith-Cameron, who played Gerri Kellman across all four seasons of Succession and was nominated for multiple awards including two Emmys for her work, has been cast as a new character in Law & Order: SVU.
Smith-Cameron's new character will be called Gwen Sharpe, and she will be a jury consultant seen opposite Mariska Hargitay's Olivia Benson. It is understood that she will be introduced in the season 28 premiere episode, which will air on 8 October 2026 in the US.
Since Succession came to an end, Smith-Cameron has also been seen in series such as Hacks, Murdaugh: Death in the Family and Elsbeth, while she is also set to star in the upcoming drama Seven Sisters, alongside Elizabeth Olsen, Cristin Milioti and Anthony Edwards.
Law & Order: SVU stars Hargitay and Ice-T, with the latter playing Odafin 'Fin' Tutuola. The series follows the team in the New York Police Department’s Special Victims Unit, who investigate crimes of sexual assault, child abuse and domestic violence.
The series also currently stars Peter Scanavino, Kelli Giddish, Kevin Kane, Aimé Donna Kelly and Corey Cott.
Law & Order: SVU is currently one of only two ongoing series in the Law & Order franchise, along with the original show. Previous series in franchise have included Criminal Intent, Trial by Jury, LA, True Crime and Organised Crime.
Law & Order: Organised Crime ran for five seasons on NBC and Peacock, before being cancelled earlier this year.
When the cancellation was announced, that show's star Christopher Meloni, who played Elliot Stabler, posted an Instagram video saying: "I wanted to take this moment to say thank you to the fans who not only helped give the character of Elliot Stabler life and longevity, but for sticking with him and welcoming him back. It was a good ride."
