The most anticipated wedding in Emmerdale this year has ended in tragedy.
Joe Tate (Ned Porteous) was betrayed by his bride Dawn Taylor (Olivia Bromley) on his wedding day, thanks to an insidious revenge orchestrated by his enemies Caleb Miligan (William Ash) and Ruby (Beth Cordingly).
Dawn had been convinced by Caleb and Ruby that Joe had attacked Billy from behind in a jealous rage after discovering his almost-kiss with Dawn.
Billy was keen to believe it, given his lingering feelings for his ex. That’s why he didn’t reveal the truth after Kev Barton (Chris Coghill) admitted that he attacked Billy during a robbery gone wrong.
The truth came out on the wedding day, when Joe’s mentor Graham Foster (Andrew Scarborough) caught Dawn attempting to flee, prompting her to knock him out and tie him up in the barn.
Meanwhile, Caleb blew his revenge plan to Joe out of spite, prompting the Lord of Home Farm to race off to find his bride. At the same time, Dawn finally got the truth from a guilty Billy, who confessed that Joe didn’t attack him – he just wanted Dawn away from that monster.
Having trusted the wrong man, a devastated Dawn ran back to find a self-destructive Joe trashing their wedding marquee.
They weren’t the only ones caught up in the chaos. Jimmy King (Nick Miles) had arranged to meet his wife Nicola (Nicola Wheeler) at the wedding venue to discuss renewing their vows… only to accidentally plough his car straight into the marquee.
Severely injured, poor Jimmy died in the wreckage. The worst was yet to come as Dawn escaped the tent just in time for it to explode in a fireball… with Joe trapped inside.
In today’s episode, the news of Jimmy’s death broke in the village as Caleb and Ruby reeled to realise they are responsible, while Nicola struggled to come to terms with her loss.
Joe survived, and was rushed to hospital just as Dawn’s water broke. He rushes to her bedside, where Dawn gave birth to their son. The couple cradled their child, reunited despite everything.
At the site of the incident, the mysterious DS Ramsden (Chelsea Edge) surveys the scene when Kim confronted her, demanding answers.
Ramsden informed her that Jimmy’s car swerved to avoid someone. As Kim warns that whoever is responsible has a lost to answer for… there standing behind them, looking very guilty, was Gabby Thomas (Rosie Bentham).
Did she cause the accident?
