Suárez elected free agency earlier in the week after his latest DFA. The 36-year-old has been on and off the big league roster a few times this season. Suárez had been in the big league bullpen since the end of May. He has worked 55 innings across 25 appearances, turning in an earned run average just below 4.00 despite a modest 16.5% strikeout percentage.
This is Suárez’s third season in the Baltimore organization. He held a rotation spot for most of 2024 and worked to a 3.70 ERA across 133 2/3 innings. Injuries sidelined Suárez for most of ’25, leading the O’s to drop him and re-sign him to a minor league deal over the winter. He got back on the MLB roster a few days into the season in a relief capacity.
Suárez has only made two appearances with Norfolk this season. He started both of those but hasn’t gone more than two innings in an MLB game since the beginning of July. The O’s could decide to keep him in the shorter relief role rather than having him build back up as a starter for the final three weeks of the Triple-A season.
