ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Any showers we had around on Thursday come to an end, which is good news, since we will be skywatching tonight! We will see a partial lunar eclipse, starting at 10:33PM, ending at 1:51AM and we’ll see the maximum at 12:12AM. The moon will appear a reddish/orange hue as it becomes 93% eclipsed. The sky won’t be clear, but we should see enough breaks in the clouds to allow us to see the lunar event. In addition to the eclipse, there’s the chance we could also see the Northern Lights. These are always very difficult to forecast, but there’s a chance we could perhaps see both at the same time if everything works out perfectly.
Friday morning will start off mostly cloudy with a few stray showers. High pressure moving in will clear our sky nicely into the afternoon, with a mostly sunny sky returning. It’ll be a cooler day with fresher air blowing in and highs in the lower 70s. The weekend also looks quite nice, with a mostly sunny sky on Saturday, and a partly cloudy sky on Sunday. Both weekend days continue to look dry, which is great news for any outdoor plans for this last weekend of August!
It’ll start to turn warmer, more humid and more unsettled for at least the first half of next week. The big ridge that has been pumping in the heat to the western US will slowly shift east. We’ll be right on the edge of that ridge, and thus right on the edge of the “warm” vs. “hot” air, and the storm track in our vicinity. This will likely be a changing forecast, and we’ll update as we get a little closer.
