Prime Video would welcome any conversations about partnering on Doctor Who

Prime Video would "welcome any conversations" about partnering on Doctor Who.

The sci-fi is set to be put out to competitive tender, after the BBC’s deal with Disney came to an end. Bad Wolf will no longer produce the series and Russell T Davies stepped back as showrunner.

Speaking at the 2026 Edinburgh TV Festival, Oliver Jones, senior commissioner, UK scripted, said: "I love Doctor Who, so we’d welcome any conversations."

The future of the series is now uncertain – although it could end up staying very close to home as BBC Studios previously confirmed it will compete to be the next producer of the show.

BBC Studios CEO Tom Fussell told Deadline: "We’ve been the producer for 60 years and we want to be the producer for another 60 years, so we will be going for that tender with gusto. We are in it to win it."

However, he did not confirm which BBC Studios label will compete, adding: "We’ve got the full breadth of our studio to look at that and we will do the best for an absolute adored brand.

Meanwhile, although the BBC did not mention Doctor Who during its panels at the 2026 TV Festival, new director-general Matt Brittin previously promised that the BBC will "regenerate" the show once again.

The tender process has not yet begun and there's not currently a timeline as to when it will happen.

However, it's been suggested that Doctor Who may not return to screens until 2028.

When the BBC announced that Doctor Who would be put out to tender, the broadcaster said in a statement: "Doctor Who remains an important part of the BBC and this tender underpins the BBC’s continued commitment to Doctor Who ensuring audiences will enjoy the show for years to come."
