However, this has also been Freeland’s most homer-prone season outside 2019’s juiced-ball campaign. He’s allowed an average of 1.74 long balls per nine frames this year, and the 10.6% barrel rate he’s yielded to opponents is tied for the highest mark of his career. He’ll be limited to one-year offers — perhaps a minor league deal — in free agency this winter whether he returns or sits out the rest of the season.
