ROCHESTER, N.Y. — A jury trial is set for February for a man accused of attacking a 16-year-old girl with a machete, leaving her with life-altering injuries, on St. Paul Street.
Steven McFadden-Sanchez appeared before a Monroe County Court judge on Tuesday morning. He’s charged with attempted murder, assault, and rape. News10NBC spoke with prosecutors about what’s next in the case.
“At this time, we’ll be headed towards motion practice. After that, if any hearings are granted, we’ll have hearings based on those,” said Monroe County Assistant District Attorney Jonathan Jirik.
Rochester Police say the attack happened around 7:30 a.m. on July 17. Officers arrived and found the teen with severe cuts across multiple areas of her body, and they immediately applied two tourniquets. She was then rushed to Strong Memorial Hospital and went into surgery.
According to RPD, her wounds are no longer considered life-threatening. Police say they arrested McFadden-Sanchez at the scene. The judge has set the bail at $100,000 and bond at $200,000.
If found guilty, McFadden-Sanchez faces up to 25 years in prison.
