Lafayette Removes Interim Head Coach Title, Names Mike Rinde Permanent Head Coach

By Anya Pelshaw on SwimSwam

Lafayette College has named Mike Rinde as its next permanent head coach of its men’s and women’s swimming and diving programs. Rinde was promoted to interim head coach earlier this month after longtime head coach Jim Dailey retired after 32 seasons as head coach with the program.

“I would like to thank Sherryta, the entire leadership team and the selection committee, for this incredible opportunity,” Rinde said. “Their support for me during the process and for the program has been incredible. Over the last two seasons, I have had the immense privilege of learning from one of the most impactful figures in my life, Jim Dailey. Soaking up the rich history, deep tradition and culture of this program alongside him has been an incredible gift. It is the greatest honor of my coaching career to accept and represent Lafayette College swimming and diving as the next head coach. The future is very bright for the programs and I can’t wait to start the 2026-27 season. I look forward to seeing you at our meets.”

Rinde has spent the last two seasons with the Leopards as an assistant coach under Dailey. Prior to arriving at Lafayette, Rinde was an assistant coach at fellow Patriot League school Lehigh where he wrote workouts, was in charge of the programs recruiting, and oversaw the programs underwater video analysis and review.

Before his time at Lehigh, Rinde spent time at the USA Swimming club level with Parkland Swimming Club where he served as program director and head coach. He also had prior coaching stops at Blue Eagle Swim Team, Swim Atlanta, Montgomery YMCA Barracudas Swim Team, and Town Wreckers Swim Team.

Rinde began his coaching career at a graduate assistant at Division I Canisius College from 2010-2013. He graduated from SUNY Buffalo State College in 2010 with a bachelors degree in health and wellness.

The Lafayette men finished 8th out of 10 teams while the women were 10th out of 10 teams at the 2026 Patriot League Championships. The school began classes today for the 2026-2027 academic year.
