A suspect was arrested after a woman was stabbed near a Lincoln intersection on Monday, officials said.

The Lincoln Police Department said officers were called around 7:45 a.m. to the area of Spring Valley Parkway and Stoneridge Boulevard for a report of a stabbing.

    Officers and Placer County sheriff's deputies arrived to find a woman who had been stabbed in the back. The woman was taken to an area hospital and her injuries were not believed to be life-threatening.

    The knife believed to have been used in the stabbing was recovered by investigators at the scene.

    Police searched the surrounding area for about an hour before locating Sun City Lincoln Hills resident James McKown, 29, near Fallen Leaf Lane and Tahoma Lane.

    McKown was arrested without incident and faces charges of suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, elder abuse and a probation hold, police said.

    Based on the preliminary investigation, detectives said it appears the stabbing was a random attack.

    The investigation remains ongoing.
