GATES, N.Y. — The Gates-Chili Fire Department is no longer recruiting volunteer firefighters.
The department’s board of directors voted last week to end recruitment efforts after deciding there wasn’t a return on the investment. According to the Gates Fire District Chief Tim Goole, the Gates Fire District will still be accepting applications, as it is separate from the Gates-Chili Fire Department.
But as News10NBC has reported in other communities in our region, the problem isn’t just in Gates-Chili.
“The issues that we’re running into for lack of volunteers is not unique to just this organization. It’s not only statewide, it’s nationwide,” said Goole.
