With the Chicago Cubs set to open a set in Arizona tonight against the Diamondbacks, there were two random items I wanted to share.
First, in his latest Sunday Notes at FanGraphs, David Laurila asked which opponent had most impressed Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo this season. His response:
“We played the Chicago Cubs at the beginning of May — we haven’t seen them in awhile, but are getting ready to play them again — and I walked away from that series thinking they were a pretty complete team,” said Lovullo. “Obviously, they’re well run with Craig Counsell at the helm. The players knew their roles and were playing at a pretty high level. They were playing very fast. For me, that’s about prep, and also about talent and execution. I would say they have been the best.”
High praise for the Cubs, and here’s hoping they don’t let it get to their heads this week.
