It's now been well over two years since we last got to see another twisted story in the American Horror Story anthology, but finally the show is about to return for another nightmare from the mind of Ryan Murphy.
The new season, titled 13, will aptly be the 13th season, and will feature a major crossover event, with actors reprising their previous roles from past seasons.
This means there will be a truly epic line-up of returning stars, but what does Murphy have in store for us this time and when will the episodes start to air?
Read on for everything you need to know about American Horror Story season 13.
Will there be an American Horror Story season 13?
There will! In 2020, American Horror Story was renewed for three more seasons, with season 13 marking the final season in the batch that were ordered.
At the time, FX Networks chairman John Landgraf called the show's creators, Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk, the "undisputed masters of horror TV, having created the anthological limited series with American Horror Story and sustaining its success for nearly a decade as FX’s highest-rated series".
He continued: "AHS has showcased a wealth of award-winning actors since day one and we appreciate the contributions of everyone, including Ryan, Brad, and fellow executive producers Tim Minear, James Wong, Alexis Martin Woodall, and Bradley Buecker, the writers, directors, cast and crew for each new, unforgettable instalment of American Horror Story.”
If the series were to return for a 14th season beyond this, the show would need to gain a further renewal. However, for now, fans can look forward to at least one more season of the horror anthology.
When will American Horror Story season 13 debut?
It's been a long wait since American Horror Story season 12, titled Delicate, finished airing in April 2024, but finally the show is returning in September 2026.
American Horror Story's season 13, titled AHS: 13, will premiere on Thursday 24 September 2026 in the US, while UK viewers can expect the episode to land on Disney+ from Friday 25 September 2026.
Three episodes will be released at once in the first batch, while three more will arrive a week later. Batches will then switch to episodes, meaning the final two will release on 16 October in the UK.
What is American Horror Story season 13 about?
Previous seasons of American Horror Story have featured covens of witches, haunted houses, cults, serial killers and more, but this time, they are all being brought together in some form of crossover event.
While story details are thin on the ground, the official synopsis says: "Bringing together an all-star cast, many of whom are reprising fan favorite roles, AHS: 13 continues to build on the anthology’s decades-long legacy that has been streamed more than 700 million hours across the globe and spawned a legion of dedicated fans.
"Created and produced by Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk, American Horror Story has redefined the genre with various installments featuring a creepy murder house, a coven of witches, a traveling freak show, a haunted hotel and the apocalypse itself.
"Which iconic horrors will return to haunt the hallowed halls of 13 and what new terrors await? Light your candles, draw your pentagrams and prepare for a supreme surprise."
Murphy himself previously told Entertainment Tonight that "It is like The Avengers! Where they all come together to defeat the ultimate evil."
He explained: "It's all the seasons. So Sarah Paulson is playing six or seven roles. Jessica Lange is playing all four of her iconic characters. Evan Peters is playing five characters. And of course Kathy Bates and Emma Roberts and Billie Lourde."
Who stars in American Horror Story season 13?
As AHS: 13 is a crossover event, it is hardly surprising that a whole host of recognisable faces from previous seasons are returning for the new run.
This includes the likes of Sarah Paulson and Evan Peters, who will be playing multiple of their previous characters, along with Jessica Lange, Emma Roberts, Billie Lourd, Kathy Bates, Angela Bassett and many more.
Ariana Grande was originally also set to star in the season, but had to drop out due to conflicting schedules with her Eternal Sunshine tour.
